How to create your first automation

Describe a recurring report; the assistant writes a small program that runs in your browser. What to say, what you get, how to change it.

An automation is a small program made of steps: each one queries your tables, does the maths and shows a number, a paragraph, a table or a chart. It runs in a sandbox inside your browser tab, reading your tables through your own session.

  1. Have a table

An automation reads tables. Upload one first, or use one you already have.

    Ask your spreadsheet a question
    1. expenses-2026.csv

      Here's my bank export

    2. Imported 312 rows into the table expenses — 4 columns, dates from January to August.

    3. How much did I spend on restaurants in August?

    4. €412.30 across 17 visits. The top three:

      Restaurants, August 2026

      merchantvisitstotal
      Trattoria Nonna5€148.00
      Bao House4€96.50
      Café Lumen3€61.20

      14 more rows

  2. Describe the report

Say what it should show and how often you will look: “a weekly spend report by category, with a chart”. The assistant checks the table columns before writing.

  3. Open the result

You get a card with the first run. Open it to see each step; pin it into a note with a wiki link and the note shows the last run.

    2. Created “Weekly spend”. It re-runs on your data every time you run it — nothing leaves your browser.

  4. Change it

Say what to change — “add the average per day” — or edit the source in the editor. Every version is checked before it is saved.

Questions

Where can I see the source?

In the automation's page in the web app. It is short and readable; change it there or ask the assistant to.

Can it write to my tables?

No — it reads and queries them. It can create and update notes and tasks.
